Johan August Arfwedson


Johan August Arfwedson (12. tammikuuta 1792 – 28. lokakuuta 1841) oli ruotsalainen kemisti, joka löysi litiumin vuonna 1817. Hänen mukaansa on nimetty harvinainen mineraali arfvedsoniitti.


Arfwedson opiskeli Uppsalan yliopistossa lakia ja mineralogiaa, ja työskenteli kuninkaallisessa kaivoskomiteassa sekä notaarina. Tukholmaan muutettuaan hän pääsi käyttämään kemisti Jöns Jacon Berzeliuksen laboratoriota ja analysoi siellä petaliitti-nimistä mineraalia, joista löysi litiumin.[1] Vuosina 1818–1818 Arfwedson matkusteli Euroopassa, ja kotiin palattuaan hän rakennutti oman laboratorionsa.
