Mirnyi


Mirnyi (ven. Мирный) on venäläinen ympärivuotisesti käytössä oleva tutkimusasema Etelämantereella Davis Sean rannikolla Australian itselleen vaatimalla alueella. Asema avattiin 13. tammikuuta 1956 ensimmäisellä Neuvostoliiton Antarktiksen tutkimusretkellään. Asema koostuu 30 rakennuksesta, ja kesäisin siellä on 169 työntekijää ja talvisin noin 60. Asema sijaitsee 39,9 metriä merenpinnan tasosta.


Alueen keskilämpötila on –11 °C ja keskimääräinen tuulen nopeus jopa 11,2 m/s. Alueella esiintyy äärimmäisen usein myrskyjä. Keskimäärin 204 päivänä vuosittain tuulen nopeus aseman lähettyvillä on yli 15 m/s ja syklonit ovat yleisiä. Kesän yötön yö kestää noin yhden kuukauden. Meri alkaa jäätyä yleensä helmikuussa, ja keskimääräinen jään syvyys on 20–40 cm. Alueella sataa vuodessa keskimäärin 146 päivän aikana yhteensä 400 millimetriä lunta tai vettä (vettä lämpiminä kesäkuukausina). Joskus suotuisissa olosuhteissa lumisade voi kestää tauotta jopa viikkoja.


Päätutkimusalueet ovat glasiologia, seismologia, meteorologia, revontulet, kosminen säteily ja meritiede.
