Albert James ”Alan” Freed (15. joulukuuta 1921 Windber, Pennsylvania – 20. tammikuuta 1965 Palm Springs, Kalifornia) oli yhdysvaltalainen DJ ("Moondog"), joka tuli tunnetuksi suurella merkityksellään rock'n'rollin varhaiseen historiaan ja leviämiseen. Hänet kelpuutettiin Rock and Roll Hall of Fameen ensimmäisten joukossa vuonna 1986.


Freedin myöhäistä uraa varjosti niin kutsuttu payola-skandaali: vuonna 1962 Freed tuomittiin 300 dollarin sakkoihin ja puolen vuoden ehdolliseen vankeuteen lahjusten ottamisesta tiettyjen äänitteiden soittamiseksi ohjelmissaan. Lisäksi hän joutui maksamaan 37 000 dollaria tuloveroa ilmoittamatta jääneistä tuloistaan. Samassa tutkinnassa todettiin kaikkiaan 255 DJ:n ottaneen lahjuksia, joista seitsemää vastaan nostettiin syyte, ja Freed oli ainoa rangaistukseen tuomittu.[1]


Freed esiintyi uransa aikana myös televisiossa sekä useissa rock-elokuvissa ja on saanut tähden Hollywood Walk of Famella. Vuonna 1978 sai ensi-iltansa hänestä kertova elokuva Kuumaa vahaa (American Hot Wax).


Alan Freed menehtyi 43-vuotiaana sairaalassa Kalifornian Palm Springsissä kirroosin ja uremian seurauksena.[2][3]
