Loimolan kirkko 1930-luvulla.


Loimolan luterilainen kirkko sijaitsi Loimolan kylässä rajakarjalaisen Suistamon kunnan itäosassa. Se kuului Soanlahden seurakuntaan. Talvisodan jälkeen alue luovutettiin Neuvostoliitolle, mutta jo seuraavana vuonna perääntyvät venäläiset polttivat kirkon jatkosodan yhteydessä.

Taustaa |


Suojärven radan rakentamisen jälkeen 1920-luvulla Loimolaan alkoi kehittyä sahateollisuutta, mikä toi kylään paljon luterilaista väestöä. Loimolan rukoushuoneyhdistys sai vuonna 1926 tontin kirkkoa, hautausmaata ja pappilaa varten. Ennen kirkon valmistumista jumalanpalvelukset pidettiin yksityiskodissa.



Rakentaminen |


Loimolan päätytornillinen pitkäkirkko rakennettiin hirrestä ratamestari Vilho Niemisen ja pappi Topi Vapalahden yhdessä tekemien piirustusten pohjalta ja se valmistui vuonna 1932. Samana vuonna Loimola sai myös oman rajaseutupapin. Vastakkaisessa päässä kuin kellotorni oli keittiö ja kamari sekä yläkerrassa vahtimestarin asunto.



Irtaimisto |


Kirkon alttaritaulun maalasi pastori Martti Elo. Kellotornissa oli yksi kello. Urkuja kirkossa ei ollut.



Kirkon tuhoutuminen |


Kirkko tuhoutui jatkosodan alussa vuonna 1941, kun Suomi valloitti Suistamon takaisin. Perääntyvät venäläiset sytyttivät kirkon tuleen ja se paloi.
