Adad-nirari II (909–889 eaa.) oli Lähi-idässä sijainneen muinaisen Assyrian valtion kuningas, jonka katsotaan aloittaneen Uus-Assyrian ajan.[1]
Assyria teki sotaretkiä Malatiaan, nairimaat pohjoisen vuorilla ja luoteisen vuoriston.
Babylonian kuningas Shamasshumukin nousi kapinaan ja Babylonin piirityksen jälkeen vioitettiin. Hänen jälkeensä Babylonian vasallikuninkaaksi nostettu nabusumukin yrittä samaa kuin edeltäjänsä, mutta hänkin kukistui Assyrian joukkojen hyökkäykseen ja jäi vangiksi. Babylonia ja Assyria solmivat ystävyssopimuksen. Adad-nirari II hyökkäsi Nuradadin johtamaa aramealaisvaltio Nisbisiin, joka sijaitsi aikaisemman Mitannin seuduilla. Sota kesti kuusi vuotta, ja Assyria voitti sen. Assyria sai myös Nisbisin eteläpuoliset Eufratin valtiot maksamaan veroa.
