Cassina S.p.A. on italialainen luksushuonekalujen valmistaja, joka tunnetaan moderneista design-kalusteistaan. Niiden suunnittelijoina ovat olleet muun muassa Achille Castiglioni, Vico Magistretti, Gaetano Pesce ja Philippe Starck. Cassina valmistaa yksinoikeudella Le Corbusier’n suunnittelemia huonekaluja[1] ja tekee tilaussisustuksia muun muassa risteilyaluksiin. Vuodesta 2005 Cassinan on omistanut italialainen Poltrona Frau Group.



Historiaa |


Yrityksen perustivat vuonna 1927 veljekset Cesare ja Umberto Cassina Pohjois-Italian Medaan. He valmistivat erityylisiä tilauskalusteita vauraiden asiakkaiden maun mukaan, kunnes toisen maailmansodan jälkeen kiinnostuivat arkkitehtien Franco Albini ja Giò Ponti innoittamina modernien huonekalujen valmistamisesta. Yksi ensimmäisistä menestystuotteista oli Pontin suunnittelema kevyt pikkutuoli Superleggera. 1960-luvun keskivaiheilla he ottivat tuotantoon 1900-luvun alun mestareiden Le Corbusier’n, tämän serkun Pierre Jeanneret’n ja Charlotte Perriandin suunnittelemia kalusteita. Tämä I Maestri -kokoelma laajeni pian Gerrit Rietveldin, Frank Lloyd Wrightin ja Charles Rennie Mackintoshin huonekaluihin.[2][1]
