Henri Louis Le Chatelier (8. lokakuuta 1850 Pariisi – 17. syyskuuta 1936 Miribel-les-Échelles) oli ranskalainen kemisti. Le Chatelier tunnetaan nimeään kantavasta Le Châtelier’n periaateesta, jonka avulla voidaan ennustaa kemiallisen reaktion suuntaa, kun reaktion tasapainoa häiritään.[1]



Elämä |


Henri Louis Le Chatelier syntyi lokakuussa 1850 kuusilapsisen perheen esikoisena. Hän suoritti alemmat tutkinnot vuonna 1867 ja 1868 Collège Rollinissa Pariisissa. Vuonna 1869 Henri aloitti opinnot École polytechniquessa. Vuotta myöhemmin hän aloitti kaivosteollisuuden opinnot École des Minesissa, josta valmistui kolme vuotta myöhemmin. Oltuaan eri kaivoksilla kaivosinsinöörinä muutaman vuoden, hän palasi École des Minesiin opettajaksi vuonna 1877. Ernest-François Mallardin alaisuudessa hän aloitti räjähteisiin keskittyvän tutkimuksen. Le Chatelier väitteli vuonna 1887 Sorbonnen yliopistossa hydraulisista sidosmateriaaleista. Vuonna 1884 hän esitti tunnetun nimeään kantavan periaatteen, jonka mukaan kemiallinen tasapainoreaktio pyrkii vastustamaan muutosta, jos sen tasapainoa häiritään. Tämän löydön jälkeen hän keskittyi tutkimaan termodynamiikan hyödyntämistä teollisuudessa. Vuonna 1887 hän sai professuurin École des Minesista oltuaan ensin lehtorina École Polytechniquessa.[1]
