Kadonnut henkilö on henkilö, joka katoaa jättämättä viestiä olinpaikastaan. Kadonneesta henkilöstä tehdään yleensä katoamisilmoitus poliisille.


Useimmat katoamiset ovat tilapäisiä. Huomattavan osan kadonneista muodostavat pienet lapset tai dementiasta kärsivät vanhukset. Nämä tapaukset selviävät tavallisesti melko nopeasti.[1]


Sodissa taistelukentällä kadonneiksi merkitään sotilaat, joiden kuolemasta ei ole varmaa tietoa, koska he ovat saattaneet jäädä myös vangiksi.

Suomessa |


Valtakunnallinen ETSI-rekisteri saa vuosittain noin 500–800 ilmoitusta kadonneista henkilöistä. Suomessa jää vuosittain pysyvästi kadoksiin vain noin 20–40 ihmistä. Näiden verrattain harvojen tapausten taustalla saattaa olla esimerkiksi itsemurha, henkirikos, kaappaus tai tapaturmainen hukkuminen.


Kadonnut henkilö saatetaan myöhemmin julistaa kuolleeksi. Kuolleeksi julistamista ilman odotusaikaa ei voida toteuttaa, ellei tapausta pidetä varsin selvänä. Jos katoamisen olosuhteisiin ei tiedetä liittyneen välitöntä hengenvaaraa, odotusaika on joko yksi vuosi tai viisi vuotta.[2]
