Lontoon maailmannäyttely (Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations) vuonna 1851 oli ensimmäinen järjestetty maailmannäyttely.[1]


Maailmannäyttelyn paviljongiksi rakennettiin Kristallipalatsi -niminen lasipalatsi, jonka suunnitteli arkkitehti Joseph Paxton.[2]. Lasin ja metallin uudenlaista käyttöä soveltaneesta rakennuksesta tuli nopeasti näyttelyn tunnus. Näyttelyn jälkeen rakennus purettiin ja siirrettiin Sydehamin kukkulalle, ja siinä järjestettiin konsertteja ja näyttelyitä. Se tuhoutui tulipalossa vuonna 1936. Sen tilalle rakennettiin urheilukeskus, joka on antanut nimensä jalkapalloseuralle Crystal Palace.


Näyttelyyn osallistui 14 000 näytteilleasettajaa[3] ja näyttelyssä kävi noin kuusi miljoonaa vierailijaa. Näistä ulkomaalaisia oli noin 60 000, joista noin puolet ranskalaisia.[4]


Näyttely tuotti voittoa, joka käytettiin kolmen museon perustamiseen. Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum ja Natural History Museum saivat lipputulojen ansiosta aineistoa kokoelmiinsa sekä varoja toimintaansa.


Vuonna 1951 järjestetty Festival of Britain -tapahtuma ajoitettiin tarkoituksella vuoden 1851 maailmannäyttelyn satavuotisjuhlavuodelle, vaikkei se ollut sen tavoin maailmannäyttely.[5]
