Vitré on kunta läntisessä Ranskassa Ille-et-Vilainen departementissa Bretagnen alueella.



Nähtävyyksiä |


Kaupungin linna Château de Vitré on yksi Bretagnen näyttävimmistä ja se pääsi Ranska historiallisten monumenttien listalle jo vuonna 1872. Linna on rakennettu 1000-luvulla ja sitä on laajennettu aina 1600-luvulle saakka. Linnan isäntä Vitrén paroni Guy XV de Laval antautui ranskalaisille joukoille vuonna 1487 ilman taistelua. Bretagnen parlamentti kokoontui linnassa kolmasti vuosina 1564, 1582 ja 1583, jolloin rutto vaivasi parlamentin normaalia kokoontumispaikkaa Rennesiä. Nykyään linna toimii kaupungintalona ja –museona.


Kunnan alueella oleva toinen linna, 1400-luvulla rakennettu Château des Rochers-Sévigné, kuuluu myös Ranskan historiallisten monumenttien listalle. Linnassa asunut markiisitar Madame de Sévigné kirjoitti siellä kuuluisat kirjeensä 1600-luvulla, jotka ovat osaltaan muokanneet Ranskan kirjallisuutta.[2]
