Lähivakuutus oli keskinäinen vakuutusyhtiö. Ryhmään kuului noin 60 paikallista vakuutusyhdistystä, jälleenvakuutus- ja palveluyhtiö Lähivakuutus Keskinäinen yhtiö sekä Lähivakuutus osk. Lähivakuutus osk:n ja Keskinäisen yhtiön pääkonttori oli Espoon Leppävaarassa.


Lähivakuutuksen ja Säästöpankkien omistama Henkivakuutusyhtiö Duo aloitti toiminnan keväällä 2007.


Lähivakuutuksen tuotteista on saanut Suomen Lähikaupan YkkösBonusta vuodesta 2008.


Helmikuussa 2012 kerrottiin, että Tapiola ja Lähivakuutus yhdistyvät keskinäiseksi finanssiryhmäksi Lähivakuutus-Tapiolaksi kahden vuoden sisällä. Yhdistyminen edellyttää hyväksymisen Lähivakuutuksen yhtiökokouksessa. Lähivakuutuksen ja Tapiolan yhdistymisestä päätettiin yhtiökokouksissa. Uuden yhtiöryhmän nimeksi tuli LähiTapiola.[1] LähiTapiola aloitti toimintansa 1. tammikuuta 2013.
