Death from Above 1979 on Torontosta kotoisin oleva vuosina 2002–2006 toiminut kanadalainen vaihtoehtorock-yhtye.


Yhtye koostui laulaja/rumpalista Sebastien Graingerista ja basistista Jesse F. Keelerista, joka myös soitti satunnaisesti koskettimia studiokappaleilla. Yhtyeen erikoisuutena pidettiin heidän haluttomuuttaan palkata kitaristia. He soittivat rajua ja punkahtavaa noise-rockia pelkällä rumpali-basisti-kokoonpanolla.


Yhtye perustettiin 2002 alkuperäiseltä nimeltään pelkästään Death from Above, mutta kaksikko pakotettiin vaihtamaan nimensä, kun samanniminen newyorkilainen levy-yhtiö uhkasi yhtyettä oikeustoimilla. 2004 yhtye vaihtoi nimeksi Death from Above 1979. Yhtye oli kerennyt jo julkaista aikaisemmalla nimellään EP:t Heads Up! (2002) ja Romantic Rights (2004).


Yhtye julkaisi studioalbumin You're a Woman, I'm a Machine (2004). Albumilta julkaistiin singlet Romantic Rights, Blood On Our Hands ja Black History Month, jotka herättivät indie fanien mielenkiinnon. Albumista julkaistiin myöhemmin myös erikoisversio, joka sisältää perusalbumin lisäksi bonus-CD:n. Yhtye pääsi soittamaan mm. Late Night with Conan O'Brien talk show-ohjelmassa kappaleen "Romantic Rights", jossa Max Wineberg soitti kappaleen loppupuolella rumpuja. Yhtye päätti lopettaa 2006 sillä Jesse F. Keeler halusi työstää omaa MSTRKRFT yhtyettä, joka soittaa konemusiikkia. Myöhemmin myös Sebastien Grainger on tehnyt musiikkia omien yhtyeidensä kanssa.


Yhtye palasi taas yhteen vuonna 2011 1. Yhtye ilmoitti keikka-aikataulunsa, joka käsittää hieman yli 20 live-esiintymistä, joista suurin osa on Yhdysvalloissa, Englannissa ja Kanadassa. Moni esiintymisistä on festivaaleilla.
