Ohjaaja Ishirō Honda pitelee Godzilla-elokuvassa käytettyä Godzilla-hahmoa.


Godzilla (jap. ゴジラ, Gojira) on kuvitteellinen, mutatoitunut dinosaurus, jonka alkuperä on useimmissa tarinoissa liitetty ydinkokeiden tuottamaan radioaktiiviseen säteilyyn. Hahmon kehitti Tōhō, ja se nähtiin ensimmäisen kerran vuonna 1954 elokuvassa Godzilla. Lokakuuhun 2010 mennessä Tōhō oli tuottanut kaikkiaan 28 Godzilla-elokuvaa.[1][2][3][4] Elokuvien lisäksi Godzilla on esiintynyt videopeleissä, kirjoissa, sarjakuvissa ja televisiosarjoissa.


Godzillalle myönnettiin Japanin kansalaisuus vuonna 2015.[5][6][7]

Muut hirviöt |


Useimmissa elokuvissa Godzilla taistelee muiden jättiläishirviöiden kanssa, joko niitä vastaan tai liittoutuneena niiden kanssa muita hirviöitä vastaan. Godzilla on otellut muiden muassa Mechagodzillaa, Gigania, Biollantea[8] ja King Kongia vastaan.[9] Jättiläiskoi Mothra ja lentoliskomainen Rodan puolestaan ovat toisinaan otelleet Godzillaa vastaan,[10] toisinaan taas sen rinnalla.[11] Yksi Godzillan pahimmista vihollisista on Spacegodzilla, Destroyah ja King Ghidorahlähde?

Vuonna 1998 TriStar Pictures tuotti Godzilla-elokuvan, jossa esiintyy Tōhōn Godzillan sijasta enemmän dinosaurusta muistuttava amerikkalainen Zilla. Toinen amerikkalainen Godzilla-elokuva Godzilla sai ensi-iltansa vuonna 2014. Sen tuotti Legendary. [12]
