Xenix on Microsoftin 1970-luvun lopussa AT&T:ltä lisensoima Unixiin perustuva käyttöjärjestelmä. Xenix oli ensimmäinen IBM PC:lle tarjolla ollut Unix-järjestelmä. Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) hankki siihen myöhemmin yksinoikeudet ja ryhtyi levittämään sitä SCO UNIX -nimellä.[1]


Ensimmäinen, Intel 8088 -prosessorille tarkoitettu versio Xenixistä toteutettiin AT&T Unix System III:n pohjalta laajentaen ja valmistui vuonna 1983. Intel 80286 -pohjaisiin PC AT-koneisiin tarkoitetun version pohjana oli AT&T Unix System V Release 2 ja se julkaistiin 1985. Santa Cruz Operation teki lisenssisopimuksen XENIX:istä Microsoftin kanssa 1987. Samana vuonna ilmeistyi 80386-prosessoria hyödyntävä XENIX 386. Se kykeni käyttämään maksimissaan 16 MB RAM-muistia.[2]
