Immanuel on Nurmeksen kaupungin keskustassa esitettävä katunäytelmä. Se esitetään aina joulunaatonaaton iltana. Esittäjät ovat paikkakuntalaisia harrastajia.


Jouluevankeliumiin perustuvan näytelmän on kirjoittanut Eeva Vainio. Vainion ja Rauha Kejosen runoihin sävelletyn Seppo Paroni Paakkunaisen musiikin toteutus ulkona lumen keskellä on nurmekselaisille tärkeä joulun vieton aloitus.


Esitys alkaa Maariankadulta, ja tapahtumapaikat ovat Kirkkopuiston ympäristössä. Nurmeksen keskustan valot sammutetaan, ja pimeyttä valaisevat vain elävät tulet ja näyttämöpaikkojen valot. Valoilla ja musiikilla on näytelmässä tärkeä osa.


Immanuelin ohjaaja vaihtuu yleensä kolmen vuoden välein. Ohjaajina ovat olleet muun muassa Ilkka Bäckman, Juha Iso-Aho, Varpu Hartikainen, Kirsi Huotari, Matti Pajula, Mikko Lammi ja Janne Suutarinen. Vuosina 2017 ja 2018 ohjaajana on ollut Emilia Pokkinen.[1] Musiikin on säveltänyt Paroni Paakkunainen.


Ensimmäisen kerran Immanuel-näytelmää esitettiin 1989. Tulloin odotettiin muutamaa kymmentä katsojaa, mutta yleisöä tuli 2500.


Draaman taustalle perustettiin kannatusyhdistys Nurmes-talolla Immanuelin päivänä, 28. helmikuuta 1991. Ensimmäiseksi puheenjohtajaksi valittiin Maija-Liisa Kettunen ja sihteeriksi Juha Iso-Aho. Näytelmä on osa Nurmeksen Joulumusiikki -tapahtumasarjaa.
