Tämä artikkeli käsittelee muinaiskelttien juhlaa. Samhain on myös Glenn Danzigin perustama yhtye.

Samhain tai samain on muinaiskelttien halloweenia vastaava juhla. Nimi "samain" tulee luultavasti sanoista kesän (samrad) loppu (fain), ja se oli kesäkauden ja sadonkorjuun päättymisen juhla, jota vietettiin loka-marraskuussa.


Samain-juhla saattoi kestää pari viikkoa. Kelttien uskomusten mukaan samainin aikana tämän- ja tuonpuoleisten maailmojen väliset rajat katosivat, ja henget saattoivat yrittää houkutella ihmisiä tuonpuoleiseen. Sen vuoksi juhlan aikana poltettiin kokkotulia asutusten ympäristössä, koska tulien uskottiin antavan suojaa henkien hyökkäyksiä vastaan.[1] Myös nauriskynttilöitä koverrettiin ja poltettiin, jotta kuolleiden henget pelästyisivät ja jättäisivät ihmiset rauhaan.


Samhainina alkaa myös monien pakanallisten uskontojen uusi vuosi. Siksi samhainina pohditaan tulevaisuutta ja mennyttä sekä tehdään tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia. Samhainin perinteisiin kuuluu myös tulevaisuuden ennustaminen.


Monissa uuspakanallisissa uskonnoissa vietetään vanhoja juhlapyhiä, kuten samhainia.
