Mesrop Maštots (noin 361 Hassik, Taronin maakunta, Armenian kuningaskunta – 441 Etšmiadzin, Armenia) oli armenialainen teologi, lingvistikko ja hymnologi, joka kehitti armenialaiset aakkoset vuonna 406.


Mesrop kuului syntyperältään Mamikonianien dynastiaan. Hän toimi kuningas Chosroes III:n kirjurina käyttäen aluksi kreikan, persian ja syyrian aakkostoja. Myöhemmin hän ryhtyi pienen ryhmän mukana erakkomunkiksi ja ryhtyi tutkimaan raamatuntekstejä. Hän palasi kuitenkin sivilisaation pariin Bysantin ja Parthian jakaessa maan. Tähän aikakauteen tuli tarpeelliseksi muodostaa armenialainen aakkosto, mikä tapahtui Mesropin johdolla vuonna 406. Tässä häntä avustivat parthialaissyntyinen patriarkka Iisak sekä kuningas Chosroes III:n veli kuningas Vramšapuh. Jo vuonna 411 Raamattu käännettiin armeniaksi.[1]
