Oikea käsi


Oikeakätiset ovat henkilöitä, jotka ovat taipuvaisia käyttämään arkisissa askareissaan enemmän oikeaa kuin vasenta kättään.[1]


Väestön oikea- ja vasenkätisyyssuhteita ei tilastoida. Kuitenkin useimmissa Yhdysvalloissa tai Yhdistyneessä kuningaskunnassa tehdyistä tutkimuksissalähde? on käynyt ilmi, että selkeä enemmistö, 70–95 %, on oikeakätisiä.[1] Myös monet yhteiskunnan toiminnot on suunniteltu siten, että niitä on oikeakätisen helpompi käyttää, vaikka suuri osa toiminnoista on suunniteltu sekä oikea- että vasenkätisille.


Oikeakätisyys tulee esille yllättävissäkin asioissa eri kulttuureissa. Muslimeille ja hinduille vasen käsi on ”saastainen”, koska sitä käytetään asioitaessa vessassa. Ruoka ja juoma on tarjoiltava oikealla kädellä, vasenta kättä ei saa käyttää tähän tarkoitukseen.
