Watsa on territorio Haut-Uelen piirikunnassa, Kongon demokraattisessa tasavallassa. Koska maan provinssiuudistuksen toimeenpano on kesken, territoriossa toimii käytännössä vielä vanhan Orientalen provinssin hallinto. Myös territorion pääkaupunki on nimeltään Watsa. Territoriossa käytetään maan virallisista kielistä ranskaa ja lingalaa.



Historia |


Toisen Kongon sodan (1998–2003) alussa, elokuussa 1998, Ugandan joukot miehittivät Haut-Uelen ja sen mukana Durban kaupungin, missä sijaitsevat Gorumbwan, Durban ja Agbarabon kultakaivokset. Nelivuotisen miehityksen aikana kaivoksista vietiin miljoonien dollarien arvosta kultaa, yhteensä lähes tuhat kiloa.[1]


Syyskuun lopulla 2009 LRA-järjestön taistelijoiden kerrottiin hyökänneen
useisiin kyliin Durban kaivoksen liepeillä.[2]
Huhtikuussa 2010 Watsassa arvioitiin olevan noin 13 960 ihmistä sisäisessä maanpaossa.[3]
