Tuntomerkit |


Kasvit ovat vähän tunnettuja puita tai pensaita. Niiden lehdet ovat hammaslaitaisia. Terälehdet ovat kynnellisiä, ohuita ja pieniä, ja heteet sijaitsevat niiden kanssa kohdakkain. Kukassa on kupumainen mesiäinen. Siemenet ovat meheväkuorisia ja niisä on vähäpätöinen alkio.[2]

Heimo/suku kasvaa Afrikan itä- ja eteläosissa.[3]



Luokittelu |


Gerrardina-suvussa on kaksi lajia. Aikaisemmin ne vietiin Flacourtiaceae-heimoon, joka on nyttemmin hajonnut moneen osaan suurimman osan ollessa Malpighiales-lahkossa (Achariaceae ja pajukasvit).[4]
