Dark Sun on Dungeons & Dragons -roolipelin kampanjamaailma, joka sijoittuu post-apokalyptiselle aavikkoplaneetta Athakselle. TSR, Inc. julkaisi sen vuonna 1991.[1]Wizards of the Coastin uusintajulkaisu Dungeons & Dragonsin neljännen version säännöille ilmestyi vuonna 2010.[2]

Maailma |


Ankara ilmasto ja noitakuninkaiden tyrannia ovat luoneet Athakseen korruptoituneen ja väkivaltaisen kulttuurin, jossa orjuus on yleistä. Taikuuden käyttö aiheuttaa vakavia ympäristövahinkoja.


Hahmotkin ovat erilaisia verrattuna muihin fantasiamaailmoihin, esimerkiksi haltiat (elves) ovat epäluotettavia ja hobitit (halflings) kannibaaleja. Jumaluudet katosivat vuosisatoja sitten.[3]



Tarina |


Tarina alkaa ajasta jolloin aurinko oli sininen ja maailma täynnä vettä. Tähän aikaan puolituiset olivat planeetan ainoita asukkaita, mutta heidän käyttämänsä taikuus aiheutti Ruskeana aaltona tunnetun ympäristöonnettomuuden (engl. Brown Tide), joka lähes tuhosi meren. Puolituiset onnistuivat taikuutensa avulla keräämään auringon energiaa Ruskean aallon torjumiseen, mutta tämä aiheutti auringon muuttumisen keltaiseksi ja meren tilalle tuli rehevää kasvillisuutta. Eloon jääneistä puolituisista syntyivät muut humanoidirodut ja loput vetäytyivät eristyksiin vuorille unohtaen ennen mahtavan sivilisaationsa.


Seuraavana aikana syntyi mahtava Rajaat-olento, joka keksi noituuden. Toinen hänen keksimänsä tekniikka suojeli luontoa ja toinen tuhosi sitä. Hän suunnitteli muiden rotujen paitsi puolituisten tuhoamista, jota varten hän loi 15 Champion-olentoa. Tästä alkoi Cleansing Wars -aika. Championit nousivat kapinaan ja vangitsivat Rajaatin varjoulottuvuuteen. Rajaatin ja championeiden käyttämä taikuus autioitti maata ja muutti sen polttavaksi aavikoksi. Championeista tuli noitakuninkaita, jotka jakoivat selvinneet kaupunkivaltiot keskenään.

Dark Sunia käytetään videopeleissä Dark Sun: Shattered Lands[4], Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager ja Dark Sun Online: Crimson Sands.[5]
