Douglas MGR-1 Honest John.


MGR-1 Honest John on Yhdysvalloissa kehitetty maasta-maahan-ohjus, joka soveltuu taktisten ydinaseiden laukaisualustaksi. Ohjus on tyypiltään vapaastilentävä tykistöohjus, ja sen kehitti Redstone Arsenal Alabamassa,[1] ja Douglas Aircraft Company, josta tuli myöhemmin osa Boeing-konsernia.


Honest Johnissa oli yksikärkinen ja fissiotyyppinen ydinräjähde. Sen suurin kantomatka oli noin 19 kilometriä.


Ase laukaistiin 6×6 kuorma-auton lavetilta. Ydinräjähteellä varustettuna. Ohjuksen hyvin lyhyen kantaman seurauksena sen käyttö ydinräjähteellä varustettuna saattoi olla joissakin tapauksissa vaarallista omille joukoille.


Asetyypin koelaukaisut alkoivat vuonna 1951 ja käyttöönotto tapahtui kaksi vuotta myöhemmin. Ohjus voitiin varustaa kolmella eritehoisella W31-ydinkärjellä (2, 20 tai 40 kt TNT:tä), tai kemiallisella sariini-rypälepommilla, joka hajaantui tytärammuksiksi laukaisun jälkeen. Perinteisillä räjähteillä varustetun taistelukärjen omamassa oli 680 kilogrammaa, kun kemiallisen sariiniaseen toimintakärki oli jonkin verran kevyempi, painaen 564 kg.[2]

Parannettu versio, MGR-1B esiteltiin vuonna 1960. Siinä oli edeltäjäänsä jonkin verran pidempi kantomatka. Myöhemmin tämä asetyyppi korvattiin modernimmalla ja liikkuvammalla eli maastoutuskelpoisella Lance-ohjuksella.
