Standard Fruit and Steamship Company (SFSC) oli Vaccaron veljesten perustama elintarvikeyhtiö. Standard Fruitin taustalla oli veljesten 1898 New Orleansin alueelle perustama Vaccaron Brothers Company.


Vaccaron veljekset hankkivat 1903 Hondurasista luvan rautatien rakentamiseen La Ceibaan, mistä he voisivat kuljettaa banaaneja. Seuraavien vuosien aikana yrityksen markkinaosuus New Orleansiin vietävistä banaaneista kasvoi 10–15 prosenttiin, ja siitä tuli United Fruit Companyn jälkeen toiseksi suurin banaaninviejä. Standard Fruit hankki vuosille 1908–1919 yksinoikeudet uusien rautateiden ja satamien rakentamiseen. Samalla se laajensi tuotantoaan myös muihin maataloustuotteisiin. Yritys teki yhteistyösopimuksia muiden tuottajien kanssa ja näin laajensi tuotantoaan Kuubaan, Meksikoon ja Panamaan.[1]


Standard ja Cuyamel Fruit Company tekivät 1926–1929 yhteistyötä, jotta pystyisivät haastamaan paremmin United Fruitin. Yhteistyö päättyi, kun United hankki Cuyamelin. Standard hankki 1930 Jamaikalta maata ja oikeudet paikallisilta tuottajilta Yhdysvaltain kauppaan.[1]


Standard ajautui 1950-luvun alkuun mennessä lähes konkurssiin. Joseph D’Antoni otti yrityksen johtoonsa 1953 ja teki merkittäviä organisaatiomuutoksia. Hän siirsi panostusta markkinointiin ja tutkimukseen. Yritys siirtyi 1950-luvulla käyttämään Cavendish-lajiketta Gros Michelin sijaan. Samaan aikaan United epäröi vaihdosta, joka antoi kuitenkin Standardin etulyöntiasemaa. Standardin osuus Yhdysvaltain markkinoilla kasvoikin vuosien 1950–1965 välillä 8,9 prosentista 31,4 prosenttiin.[2]


Castle & Cooke hankki 1964 Standardista 55 prosentin osuuden ja neljä vuotta myöhemmin koko yrityksen. Castle & Cooke korvasi 1972 Standardin käyttämän Cabana-merkin Dolella. Se myös laajensi toimintaansa Costa Ricaan ja Nicaraguaan ja sai markkinajohtajan paikan Unitedilta 1973. Castle & Cooke siirsi hedelmätoimintansa Dole Food Companyn alle 1991.[2]
