Koko ja ulkonäkö |


Linnun pituus on noin 16 cm ja paino noin 21 g. Nokitiainen on musta, vain siivillä ja pyrstössä on valkoista kuviointia.



Esiintyminen |


Nokitiainen elää eteläisessä Afrikassa Angolassa, Botswanassa, Malawissa, Mosambikissa, Namibiassa, Etelä-Afrikassa, Swazimaassa, Sambiassa ja Zimbabwessa. Sen elinympäristön ala on 2,2 miljoonaa neliökilometriä.



Elinympäristö |


Lehtimetsät, joissa esiintyy hopeaketapania (Terminalia sericea) ja Burkea africana-seringapuuta sekä Combretum-suvun puita ja pensaita. Harvalukuisena lajia tavataan myös puutarhoissa, puistoissa, akaasiametsiköissä ja istutusmetsiköissä.



Lisääntyminen |


Naaras rakentaa pesän puun koloon, joskus linnunpönttöön. Naaras munii 1–6 munaa, joita se hautoo noin kaksi viikkoa. Molemmat emot ja usein myös vieraat linnut ruokkivat poikasia, jotka lähtevät pesästä noin 24 päivää vanhoina. Poikaset itsenäistyvät 2,5 kuukauden ikäisinä.
