Mäntäkompressori on kompressorityyppi, jossa ilmaa puristetaan sylinterissä männän avulla. Ilma imetään ensin imuventtiilin kautta, sitten se puristetaan paineventtiilin kautta painesäiliöön tai seuraavaan sylinteriin, jossa sitä puristetaan lisää.

Ilma imetään ensin sylinteriin, jossa sitä puristetaan. Jos kompressori on monivaiheinen, kulkee ilma suoraan seuraavaan sylinteriin, jossa se puristetaan vielä korkeampaan paineeseen. Mäntäkompressori on hyvä, jos tarvitaan laajaa käyttöaluetta ja korkeita paineita. Paine voidaan saada jopa 1000 baariin saakka. Mäntäkompressorin heikkous on se, että se tuottaa painetta sykkivästi, mutta se saadaan tasattua paineilmasäiliön avulla. Vahvuuksia on taas se, että imuventtiileitä voidaan pakko-ohjata, jolloin kompressori saadaan tyhjäkäytölle. Tällöin on mahdollisuus säätää ilman tuottoa ja saada säästöjä, kun konetta ei tarvitse käyttää katkonaisesti.
