60 Minute Man, Casagrande & Rintala (2000)


60 Minute Man on suomalaisen arkkitehti- ja taiteilijaparin Casagrande & Rintalan arkkitehtoninen installaatio Venetsian arkkitehtuuribiennaaliin vuonna 2000. Teoksessa Casagrande & Rintala istuttivat tammimetsän hylättyyn proomuun, jonka hinasivat Venetsiaan ja avasivat julkiseksi puistoksi. Puut istutettiin Venetsian kaupungin 60 minuutin aikana tuottaman biologisesti puhdistetun ja kompostoidun viemärijätteen päälle. [1]


"Tämä puisto on istutettu ihmisjätteelle, jonka on tuottanut Venetsian kaupunki kuudenkymmenen minuutin aikana."


The New York Timesin arkkitehtuurikriitikko Herbert Muschamp nosti 60 Minute Man -teoksen henkilökohtaiseksi suosikikseen biennaalissa[2] ja työ edusti Suomea New Trends of Architecture in Europe and Japan 2001 näyttelyissä Tokiossa, Portossa ja Rotterdamissa. [3]

Vuonna 2005 Whitney Museum of American Art toteutti ulkoasultaan Casagrande & Rintalan 60 Minute Manin kanssa lähes samanlaiseen teoksen Floating Island, joka perustui pohjautuvan maataiteilija Robert Smithsonin luonnoksiin vuodenlta 1970. Robert Smithson kuoli lentokone onnettomuudessa vuonna 1973. Teoksessa puita kasvavaa proomua hinattiin Manhattanin saaren ympäri. [4]
